Thyroid Disease
The thyroid gland in your body controls nearly all of your body's metabolic processes like how fast you burn calories and how quickly your heart beats. It is the butterfly-shaped gland located just above your collar bone in your neck.Thyroid disease can cause the person much discomfort and can possibly even lead to something more serious. Thyroid disease can cause a couple of things like hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Respectively, this means your thyroid gland either produces too many thyroid hormones, or not enough, both of which can be treated. Untreated thyroid disease can lead to significant body discomfort and in more serious cases, even comas or even be fatal. Thyroid disease is also more common in women. It can also effect pregnancy causing an increased chance of stillbirth or growth retardation of the fetus. There are also thyroid nodules, which are abnormal growth of thyroid tissue. Although these usually aren't incredibly serious and are benign, 5% of the time they can be cancerous. The symptoms of thyroid nodules are small to larger bumps located on the thyroid gland and can be felt by rubbing the neck, if large enough they can also been visibly seen. At the South Florida Endocrine center, we have a team of specialized doctors ready to help treat a wide variety of thyroid disease. We have several locations located in the Palm Beach county area. If you are experiencing any thyroid disease symptoms, please don't hesitate to contact us and set up an appointment by calling us at (561) 626-9041.
